Review of Grizzly Wintergreen Long Cut

Grizzly is a solid tasting good packing budget line dip that does the trick at a good price.  Grizzly is made by the folks at American Snuff Co. in Memphis TN.  Grizzly products span from Fine Cut snuff including Regular, Natural, and Wintergreen and Long Cut Snuff which come in Wintergreen, Straight, 1900, and Mint.  Also, there are pouches which come in Wintergreen, Regular, Straight, and Mint.  I prefer the Long Cut Wintergreen and I think everyone else does too since it seems to be sold out a lot of places that sell chewing tobacco, snuff, and Skoal Bandits, etc.  Fine Cut is really hard to pack and for some reason the flavor is just not that strong.  If I want to dip Fine Cut then I would dip Copenhagen, which I believe is the top of the shelf Fine Cut Snuff, not to mention a premium brand.

Good Points of Grizzly Wintergreen

  1. Price. Can't beat it for the value you get.
  2. Freshness. Never had a dried out can of Grizzly. Maybe this is because it moves fast on the shelf or because the cans are packaged air-tight. In any case, this snuff is always fresh and tastes great.
  3. It packs well. I was using Copenhagen Wintergreen for quite a while when it came out. I liked Copenhagen so much that when Wintergreen came out I had to try it, and I liked it because not only was it cheap or free (Copenhagen gave out many free coupons on it's website) but because it was new and it had a novelty value to it. However, I found Copenhagen Wintergreen hard to pack, it often had hard balls of tobacco in the can and was hard on the gums, it was also so moist sometimes that it would stain my fingers and be pretty messy to deal with. Grizzly is light and moist and easy to pack into a nice wad.
  4. Did I mention the price? It is cheaper than Skoal and Copenhagen and is a whole lot better than Happy Days, Longhorn, and some of the bargain dips out there.
  5. Packaging.  Grizzly now has metal lids which is pretty cool and hold up better than the plastic ones did, this is especially true for those that carry them in the back pocket of jeans.  The can is also really easy to open using your fingernail to open the can.  In the old days Skoal used to give away tobacco can openers that were also keychains, those were awesome and useful to use, too bad Tobacco companies can't give that sort of stuff away anymore.  Skoal was giving away Mud Jugs, a great spittoon, check out the links on this page entitled "Free Stuff and Coupons from Skoal, Copenhagen, and Grizzly" for more info on how to get free stuff.

Cons of Grizzly Wintergreen Long Cut

  1. It is sometimes sold out where I buy my chew, which includes Wal Mart, 7-11, gas stations, etc.. So, it is sometimes hard to find, though cheap to buy 5 can rolls at Costco.
  2. The tobacco is so light and fluffy that it sometimes feels like there is not very much in the can or it seems that I go through it faster than other brands. I think Skoal, while more expensive, seems to be denser and last me longer in terms of finishing the can. Grizzly seems to be good for 7-8 dips and then I am out.
  3. Grizzly tobacco is sometimes course and rough on the mouth and gums. Kodiak is the worst in terms of damage to gums and mouth I feel, but Grizzly can be the same way sometimes.
  4. Otherwise I have no complaints really, Grizzly Wintergreen is a good option when money is tight or if you are just looking to cut-back on the amount of money you want to spend on dip, chew, snuff, or whatever you are calling it.

Where to Find Grizzly Wintergreen Coupons

A great place to find Grizzly Tobacco coupons is on their web site at MyGrizzly.com.  There you will find contests, coupons, and all kinds of other swag and freebies.  Also you should look behind the tobacco counter as they often have Grizzly promotions like buy one get one free or maybe they are giving away playing cards or some other kind of give away with a purchase of a can of Grizzly.
